WHAT CAN I DO THE REST OF THE DAY WHEN I AM NOT TEACHING ENGLISH TO THE FAMILY? WILL I GET MY OWN KEY? WILL I HAVE MY OWN BATHROOM?
You can sign up for an intensive Spanish course in the city, which would cover the whole "Spanish morning" which runs until 2pm. You will have your own key. Some families will provide your own bathroom, others will be a shared bathroom.
AM I RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LAUNDRY?
Spanish families ususally do the laundry at home every 3 or 4 days, so you just need to make sure your clothes are dumped in the laundry basket that the parents use. If there is a maid in the house, then this will be his/her responsibility.
WHAT IF I AM ALLERGIC TO SOME FOOD?
You simply need to let us know from the very beginning to make sure the potential host family does not have an issue with that.
WHAT ARE SPANISH EATING HOURS?
Spaniards have very particular eating hours, and you must adapt to it if you want things to work out, if you do not adopt the Spanish schedule you will find it very difficult to meet up with Spaniards :-)
Breakfast, called Desayuno, is the same as elsewhere, 7-8am approx.
Lunch, called Comida, is always sometime between 2 and 3pm
Afternoon Snack, called Merienda, at 5 or 6pm
Dinner, called Cena, is sometime between 9 and 10pm
Do not worry! You will never starve, that is why we resort to world famous Tapas, small appetizers that can be tasted any time of the day in any local cafeteria (we call them bares).
WHAT HAPPENS IF I DO NOT GET ALONG WITH MY HOST FAMILY?
At HomestaysInSpain we will always be willing to help you should there be any issues with the local family. The minute you have a concern regarding your relationship with your host family you can contact us and we will help you find a solution. If the issues are serious we will either try to find another host family or we will refund you some part of the fee (the amount will depend on the length of your stay).
DO I NEED A DEGREE TO TEACH ENGLISH?
You do NOT. However if you do it will come in handy. If you do not, you DO need to have the resources and capability to make sure the kids in the family improve their English, and very important, that they have fun with you.
CAN I TRAVEL THE WEEKENDS? WHAT IF I DO NOT TRAVEL?
Absolutely! You can travel to Barcelona, Seville, Paris, Lisbon... or if you want to stay and linger you can enjoy the city and the family. If you live in a large city you can get an unlimited public transport card for around 25-70 euros per month, depending on your age and the location of your host family.
